3 steps to reduce your mental load (and maybe get on top of home chores)

Image
How to get your Home Organised! In 3 easy steps. I'm getting my home organised, this is what has inspired me to do it and the three easy steps I followed to tame the chaos! I want an organised life that is easy to manage and enjoyable to live. I wear a lot of hats so this is not as easy a I thought it would be, (the pain of unmet expectations!). But I’m doing it, and I'm doing it in my own nerdy way! I have been various levels of organised throughout my life and in different areas of my life, but lately I have been inspired to get back on top of my organising game. I've been listening too, watching and reading a lot about this topic, as I tend to do when an interest strikes. These are the main things that have me inspired to do this RIGHT NOW! Book " Radical Homemakers " by Shannon Hayes Video “ The ULTIMATE Homestead Planner! | 2023 Homestead Journal Planner Flip Through ” by Homesteaders of America STEP 1 : DEFINE ROLE AND TASKS I wear a lot of hats, you...

Radical Homemakers - A book review

Image
Book Stats Title: Radical Homemakers Author: Shannon Hayes First Published: 2010 Genre: Non-Fiction 3 out of 5 sourdough loaves (instead of stars) ----------------------------------------------------- " Radical Homemakers " by Shannon Hayes is a book that challenges traditional ideas about work, family, and home life. It’s byline is “reclaiming domesticity from a consumer culture” and the book argues that homemaking is a radical and political act in a society that values consumerism, materialism, and individualism. If your interested see my blog post about “What is Permaculture”.) The idea really speaks to me but the cover and title was a bit off-putting. BUT, once I opened the book I was impressed, I gu...

Adventures in Yogurt Making

Image
Adventures in Yogurt Making I was tired of buying expensive yogurt from the store. Why not try making my own yogurt at home? It’s apparently easy and cost-effective, but also a fun and rewarding experience. Here are some of my adventures in yogurt making: Traditional yogurt requires only two ingredients: milk and yogurt culture.  STEP1: I heat the milk up 180°F/82C roughly for one hour stirring occasionally. I like to clean the kitchen while I am making the yogurt as it ensures I don't get bored just standing there stirring for a whole hour! I tired skipping this step because the milk I bought from the store was already pasteurized so why did I need to heat it? The answer is to evaporate the liquid/water. If you don't do this step you get very runny yogurt.  STEP 2: Then I let it cool to 110°F/43C and add the yogurt culture. If you don't have a thermometer you can approximate by sticking your finger in the milk, if it feels Luke warm but not cold it’s a good time to add ...
